Dear Fort Bliss and El Paso Residents Moving to Lawton-Fort Sill,
Welcome! On behalf of the City of Lawton, Fort Sill, and our surrounding communities we welcome you and look forward to your arrival as the U. S. Army Air Defense Artillery School begins its move to Fort Sill.
For those of you who have already made the decision to relocate here, our community, the city and county are diligently preparing for your arrival. For families still in the decision making process to determine whether or not to move, we encourage you to call or write the Chamber of Commerce or if possible even visit Lawton-Fort Sill for a first-hand look at our community and see what we have to offer your families.
One of the greatest building booms ever experienced in Lawton is occurring now in anticipation of your arrival. Shopping centers, restaurants, apartments, and houses are being built or revitalized at an unprecedented rate. The majority of this work will be completed well in advance of your move. A project to revitalize downtown Lawton is also underway that will bring in all of the top retail stores, additional restaurants, and entertainment. Our schools, churches, and business community are also preparing for your arrival. Medical care is excellent in Lawton-with four hospitals located in Lawton-Fort Sill all but your most critical needs can be taken care of here.
We understand that entertainment is also important to your families. Numerous parks including the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, the Lawton Community Theater, golf, tennis, swimming, organized bicycling groups, and more are all right here in Lawton. Entertainment is also in abundance in Oklahoma City (one hour drive) and Dallas (two and a half hour drive). Professional football (Cowboys), baseball (Rangers), basketball (Mavericks), and hockey (Stars) in Dallas are easy to travel to and Texas Motor Speedway for NASCAR and Indy style motor racing enthusiasts is so close you can almost hear it.
There are also high quality employment opportunities available for spousal employment in our robust medical community, at Cameron University, Great Plains Technology Center, a wide range of high-tech defense firms, and many commercial and retail opportunities.
Our community is working together to address and solve issues that will take our already high quality of life and make it even better for all of our soldiers and civilian workforce. We are very proud of our community and with the large number of military retirees who elect to remain here when they retire, our community continues to grow and offer a wider range of services and activities for all of us to enjoy year after year.
We are excited about your arrival and will continue to do everything possible to make it a wonderful experience for your families.
Sincerely, Toney Stricklin
Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army, Vice Chairman for Government and Military Affairs Lawton-Fort Sill Chamber of Commerce and Industry
