Welcome to Lawton Fort Sill

Lawton's meaningful past and unique present make every visit memorable.

Our rich history began on August 6, 1901 when the Kiowa-Comanche reservation was opened for settlement.  A lottery was used to distribute the land in 160 acre sections.  The town site was selected by federal authorities on a section of prairie south of Fort Sill, which had been in existence since the 1860's.  Lawton has played an important role in shaping our state for more than 100 years.  Nestled in the oldest of mountains, Lawton Fort Sill is rich with relics and tales from a time long gone.  With a diverse economy that includes manufacturing, military, defense contractors, premiere health care facilities, award winning educational institutions, and a robust retail offering, Lawton Fort Sill is a city of choice for families as well as young professionals.   Our unique outdoor recreation environment and close community relationship between Fort Sill and Lawton are well renowned.
